Nexaline is funded by affiliate commission. This page explains the arrangement in full so you can judge the site's content with that in mind.
Which links are paid
Links on this site that lead to the website of Avast, an antivirus vendor, are affiliate links. They are marked with a short note beside each one saying that the link is paid. All other links on the site, such as those to government agencies, testing laboratories and Microsoft or Apple support pages, are unpaid and earn nothing.
Affiliate links point directly to the affiliate network's tracking address, which then takes you to the vendor's site. You can see that address in your browser before you click. The site does not disguise or redirect these links through its own pages.
Who pays, and when
When you follow an affiliate link and then create and activate an account on the vendor's site, the vendor pays a commission, through an affiliate network, to BATI ENERGIA, the company that publishes Nexaline. If you follow a link but do not sign up, no commission is paid. The commission arrangement applies to the vendor's desktop offering for home users; mobile apps and business products are not part of it, and the site does not cover them.
What it means for the price you pay
Nothing. The price you pay, and the terms you sign up to, are set by the vendor and are the same whether or not you arrive through this site. Nexaline does not receive your payment details or any personal information from the vendor or the affiliate network.
What the commission influences
To be plain about it, the commission does influence some things:
- Which product is covered. Avast is the only product the site links to and gives a dedicated overview because it is the product BATI ENERGIA has an affiliate arrangement for. The site does not claim to cover the whole market.
- The existence of the site. Without the commission, the site would not be published.
What the commission does not influence
- What is said about the product. Claims about Avast are limited to the product description supplied through the affiliate network. The site does not add praise, ratings or comparisons it cannot support, and it lists what is not stated.
- The general guidance. The guides on whether you need antivirus, how to choose, how to install and how to recognise scams are written to be useful whatever you decide, including if you decide to buy nothing. They describe built-in protection and no-charge alternatives fairly, although the site earns nothing from them.
- The order of content. Guides are arranged in the order a reader's questions usually arise, beginning with whether any extra protection is needed. Product information comes after that general guidance, not before it.
What does decide the content
The content is decided by what a household in New Zealand would reasonably need to know, checked against public sources such as the National Cyber Security Centre, Consumer Protection and independent testing organisations. The editorial method is set out on the About page.
No endorsement
Avast and all other product names, logos and brands mentioned on this site are the property of their respective owners. Nexaline is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by any of them. The affiliate arrangement is with an affiliate network, and does not make BATI ENERGIA a partner, reseller or authorised representative of any vendor.
